How do you cut asphault shingle roofing?

Im curious what is the best way to cut asphault shingle roofing? Im using a utility knife right now but its not coming out even! I need to know what gives it that perfect cut with no imperfections!

Use an old framing square with your knife. Work on a scrap of plywood with a good edge.

Cut it on the back side, and then snap it off.

Flip the shingle over, using a straight edge score the shingle with utility knife then bend and snap. That’s as good as it gets.

A straight edge helps. They also sell knives made for roofing material. Cut from the back side. I am sure you are going through a lot of utility blades.

Buy hooked blades for your utility knife. They work very well because you pull the blade up through the shingle.
