house roof

We added a room at the back of the house. Water is coming in through the roof. Can I just replace/patch up that section of the roof without replacing the whole thing. Is that cost effective or should I just pay to do the whole house roofing new? Do you also need a permit from the city to replace the entire roof? any help is appreciated.

use heavy grade tar paper that could help you and is inexpensive it may last a few years. why not just put anther course of shingles right over the old ones if they are not cupped you can do it its easy. my ten year old son did our roof

All depends on why it’s leaking? Is the flashing torn up, shingles missing, torn rolled roofing, hot roof/gravel, what?????
Not really enough information but generally speaking there are products on the market to make repairs without the expense of an entire roof. But again, what shape and how old is the majority of the roof? If its 15-20 years old then you might want to consider the entire roof if money isn’t an issue!
As for the building inspector, it goes by municipality. Most states have building codes requiring permits but if I were just making a small repair I wouldn’t worry about it. Doing the entire roof will be very noticable and you don’t want a problem regarding the permit because it gets very costly! The inspector can make you remove whatever you did if he/she wants to be a real pain in the@!!!

just remember every patch job is temperary,it wont last more than 2 years so rather than waste money on a patch just pay for the whole roof.
