Basically i just wanna go up there and enjoy the view or watch a sunset every now and then. My question is, will the roof hold my weight. Im about 180 pounds. My house is one of those with a black sand paper type roof.

maybe if you can find the bleams of the house, probably my dad is one-ninety and he goes up on the roof every time he gets.

Of course! Multiple roofers, who are usually muscular big guys, climb around on them when putting on new shingles or doing repairs. So, assuming your roof has no soft spots from rotted wood or something such as that, you will be able to enjoy the sunset on your roof!
Make sure you don’t fall off though!! Be safe.

It should not be a problem unless there is rot in the rafters. Most building codes require roofs to be able to withstand some heavy snow loads, high winds, and other stresses.
So, your weight shouldn’t cause any problems.
Also, think about it, it had to hold the weight of the roofers who put those shingles on, right?

I have a similar roof, though it was just redone. My house is almost 200 years old, and i can walk around on the roof with no problem. Assuming your house isn’t in a serious state of disrepair, and the roof looks solid, i wouldn’t worry too much. Just give it a feel first with your hands. Push down and see how solid it is. If you feel comfortable enough, give it a go. As long there are no serious structural defects (in which case you have a bigger problem anyway) then most roofs will hold your weight, they usually need to be strong enough to hold snow, which can get pretty heavy. (i weigh 300lbs, and my roof holds me fine, we have a 3 story house, so the roof is up there, its cool to go out there sometimes.) good luck!

If it is structurally sound it shouldn’t have any problems .
The sandpaper type is composition shingles that need replacing so often . if they are brittle and break while up there they need replacing.

YES BUT I WOULD NOT DO IT VERY OFTEN. MY ROOFER SAID IT IS NOT GOOD TO WALK ON A ROOF. HE SUGGESTED A COPPER ROOF WHERE IT WOULD BE FREQUENTLY USED.

Usually there is plywood underneath your roof sheeting, nailed or screwed to roof rafters/ joists, if you didn’t have roof leak your roof should be safe.
